Vicky Gooch left her career as a design-draftsman in Washington State when she moved abroad. In Saudi Arabia she was met with many professional opportunities. She studied with Hannah Garrett, a classically trained artist, painting in the style of Dalhart Windberg. Vicky continued to win awards for her artwork while serving on the board of the local Art Association and designing sets for the local Theater Group. She traveled extensively during this period to major art museums. Vicky is grateful for the chance to study so many original masterpieces in person.
Once back in the US, Vicky has studied Fine Art Drawing and Painting at the North Light Art School and Figure Drawing and Painting at the Scarab Club while in the Midwest. In Houston she has studied at the Glassell School and with Houston sculptor Wei Li Wang and oil painters Polly Lu and William Kalwick Jr. She has devoted the past several years to understanding the techniques of the old masters and the impressionists.
In her paintings, Vicky strives to combine the beauty of form achieved by the classical study of drawing and sculpting from life together with the variations of color as observed by the impressionists when they studied the way light affects the way we see color.
Vicky enjoys painting various subjects from personal observation. Vicky finds the human form the most rewarding. She enjoys the challenge of discovering the traits that make each person unique and bringing them to life through paint and sculpture.
